My garden is full of basil plants, and I love to preserve them during summer. Basil can be used for numerous uses, including food, natural air freshener, pest repellent, and pollinator food. If you have too much basil with you, preserving them is a great idea so they can serve you longer. What’s more, you can enjoy it when you’re craving, regardless of the season you’re in.
Most people preserve basil and other herbs by making pesto. However, if you want a bit more flexibility, then making a puree instead would be recommended. Basil puree is easy to make and can be added to any dish. You can even make using only 3 ingredients.
Here’s how.
Basil Puree
Serving: 1/2 cup
Ingredients:
- 3 cups basil leaves
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients into a food processor and blend until it’s smooth—place in a jar or any container and store in your freezer.
If you don’t have enough space, you can put it in a freezer bag and flatten it, so it consumes less space. You can also put it in an ice cube tray, so you don’t have to thaw the entire container when you need to cook.
